{3:00 minutes to read} Your online reputation — and brand presence — is an integral part of your marketing. It needs consistent care, attention, and maintenance. And as such, the change in season whether it be spring, summer, fall or winter is a good time to take stock of your digital presence and see exactly where you stand (i.e., how you appear), and make corrections accordingly. Where to begin?
Spring Cleaning Tip #1
First and foremost, search for yourself and your business on the major search engines, including Google and Bing. Look for the following:
- What results appear on the first page? Second page?
- Is there anything that is outdated or that needs to be corrected?
- Did your address update? Fax # change? Etc.
Spring Cleaning Tip #2
Online business directories are created and others dissolved. These directory sites will auto-populate by what their robots find on the internet — regardless of whether the information is accurate or not. The important thing to remember about the directories is that they have great search engine optimization (SEO). Search your name, business, and some key search phrases to ensure that the appropriate categories and services are attached to you and your business. Claim your listing on directories like Yelp, Avvo, etc. and make any necessary changes.
Business directories are attempting to contend with Google, especially since Google Plus has been taken down, Google Business is more critical to utilize.
First, verify your Google Business listing. Then your Google Business profile should be utilized for information and posts — then also encourage your clients and colleagues to review and rate you on your business profile.
Spring Cleaning Tip #3
Making regular updates to your social media profiles/pages is an important piece of the puzzle too. Here are a few questions to ask about your social media that you can review on a quarterly basis:
- Do you have any new recommendations or endorsements?
- Negative reviews are best dealt with by a public, online apology. Then push positive reviews to the top by requesting more positive recent reviews.
- What do your pages look like?
- Does your imagery and/or photos need to be updated?
- Are you aware of how graphic design changes are affecting your content?
- Remember that blank profile sections may lead people to believe you were too lazy to complete the information.
Spring cleaning applies to your online presence and we recommend that you do it at least once per year. Contact us for help today!
