{2:40 minutes to read} Content marketing has its own dictionary — blog post, social media post, and e-newsletter just to name a few. The what and the why for each vary and have different purposes along the marketing trajectory — a spectrum that starts with the creation of content, then the publication of content, and finally, syndication or promotion of content.
Your content, or blog article, is like a beautiful piece of artwork that hangs in your home (website). You enjoy the artwork daily, and you’d like to have your friends and family take a look as well. But clearly, if you don’t tell them about it, they won’t know it’s there — let alone have the opportunity to enjoy it!
So what’s the best way to get people to enjoy your artwork (content)? Get the word out!
Social Media Promotion
There are different distribution methods, but promotion is done through social media. The original artwork/blog article published on your website is syndicated and promoted by way of links, pictures, and excerpts on your social media. Which then drives traffic back through your website, increasing SEO, etc.
Many social media platforms have attempted to build in ways to keep people on the platform while consuming content, rather than on an external website like yours. LinkedIn PULSE is a great example of this. External links to an article are less likely to get internal distribution or reach “viral” status. Regardless, participating in every possible type of promotion, whether internal or external, is still a useful tactic.
Email “Digest” Newsletter
Because social media platforms are so dynamic and move with high speed, the email newsletter really pulls content together in a more targeted and permanent way. The newsletter distributes content directly into email inboxes. Although it doesn’t contain an entire article, it provides a click-through to your original website content/the artwork hanging on your wall.
So to recap: First you create and publish your content on your website. Then, you promote or syndicate your content on social media. After this, you send a newsletter with easy access to your content.
