Many sources, including Constant Contact, have determined what times are best to post to social media or send email newsletters.
Friday afternoons are considered among the worst times to send emails or posts. The best days are Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday. The best hours are between 10:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m. — when people have more free time & mental focus. The 10:00 a.m. & 2 p.m. hours are similar. After lunch, people get back to their desks & clean out their inboxes.
In the morning, you’re usually dealing with a deluge – by 10:00 a.m., you’ve gone through all of your inboxes. So when a fresh, new email arrives, you’re able to look at it. Even if it’s an email newsletter from a sales professional, you have a few minutes to peruse it.
Most of us now check email or social media before we go to sleep; we keep our gadgets bedside. When we wake up, we check it again — possibly even in the middle of the night! So, when is really the right time to send an email? One could argue that 10:00 p.m. is actually a better time than 10:00 a.m. And, maybe, 2:00 a.m. is better than 2:00 p.m!
At phoneBlogger.net, we haven’t started posting articles or sending email newsletters over the weekend or nighttime hours; however, we are considering it. By using the email scheduling tool of Constant Contact & social media scheduling tools, like HootSuite or Sendible, we can schedule our posts to arrive whenever we choose.
While there’s a saying that timing is everything, I would argue that timeliness is everything. The subject line of the article or social media post must be relevant. A timely subject is often associated with a “date-driven” event.
A date-driven event could be something you’re scheduling – like a seminar presentation or an organized event. It could be a government or regulatory deadline, like April 15th. It could be a holiday that you are marketing around, like St. Patrick’s Day, Easter or even the first day of Summer. There are also “rolling deadlines,” where someone has to take action within 30 days after something else, or within the first quarter. Summertime tends to cause certain types of events to occur and winter also has related happenings.
Having a timely subject is way more important than the day or time of day it goes out. So, our blog brainstorming process takes into consideration:
- holidays and special dates,
- government deadlines and due dates,
- rolling deadlines (see paragraph above).
At BlogBrainstormer.com, we prioritized the first 3 or 4 topic ideas on timeliness. Because, as I said, timeliness is everything. So knowing this, when is the right time to send emails & social media posts? How often do you check Facebook & email during the night?
