Apps to Make Social Media Less Time Consuming by Vikram Rajan

{4:05 minutes to read} It’s hard to keep up with all of the emails you get from clients and other VIPs. It’s also hard to keep up with the marketing outreach you have to do. It’s equally hard to find time to keep up with all the social media networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter in your day-to-day work.

phoneBlogger.net can help you with the blogging. But there are also phone apps that you can use to keep up with others and market yourself in an authentic way. In a few taps, you can like, comment on, and share what your friends & VIPs are doing.

Some of us are behind a computer so we can keep social media tabs open. You could be on hold or waiting for your next appointment. “Downtime” provides great opportunities to use your phone productively to catch up with people, marketing work, and social media—which tends to boil down to liking, commenting, and sharing on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter: This could be when you’re on public transit or being driven by others.

1. The LinkedIn app has really improved over the past couple of years and months. It’s easy to peruse your home page and see what people in your network are doing. These tend to be the closest relationships, geographically as well as professionally.

2. Facebook tends to be much more social, but the app can be a great way of getting to know colleagues in a friendly way without it always being about work. It’s also a place where people get to brag about the fun stuff they’re doing like speaking at conferences or being published some place. It’s an excellent venue for congratulating others or keeping an eye on who is growing their influence—and who might be a good fit for cross-promoting articles.

3. Twitter, as I mentioned in a previous article, provides ample opportunities to rapidly quote and re-tweet.

4. Hootsuite is a dynamic social media listening and monitoring tool. With the Hootsuite app, you can aggregate your social media networks in one place; so instead of having to go to Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn individually, you can bring them all to one place and scan them in an easier-to-read format. It’s kind of like having all your emails dumped into one inbox if you like that sort of thing.

At phoneBlogger.net, we don’t use Hootsuite or other apps to broadcast the same article to multiple social media networks. Each social media network should have its own flavor of how you present yourself. Your relationship is different when you’re talking to your parents versus your children versus your college friends versus your clients. The way you present yourself should also be appropriate to the setting. The way you are at a BBQ is different from the way you are at work. It’ll still be you, so there’s still a core you, but your face and clothing are different, literally and figuratively.

The same goes for the social media networks. When you broadcast the same thing in every place, you’re wearing the same Tommy Bahama shirt from a BBQ to a board meeting. It’s just odd wearing sandals in a board meeting and a suit at the BBQ. You just come across as being odd and thoughtless.

Brainstorming article ideas is also a great way to use your phone during “downtime.” You can easily peruse BlogBrainstormer.com on your phone. Then use your favorite note-taking app to jot down bullet points, or start writing full paragraphs to provide your phoneBlogger.net Editor!
